Chinese New Year Bolsters Lumber Sales

Although thed_239 year is winding down, sales at MacDonald & Owen are doing just the opposite.

October 2016 was a record-breaking month. Our sales goal was set at a $5.2 million, but we came in at an all-time high of $6.3 million dollars, far surpassing our previous sales record by more than $1 million! A major contribution to this success was the push from our export sales team to move international shipments by the end of the month. This ensured that our lumber would arrive at our Vietnamese and Chinese ports prior to Chinese New Year celebrations.

In 2017, Chinese New Year will fall on January 28. Many employers close their doors one to two weeks prior to the holiday and remain closed for several weeks after. This means that Chinese and Vietnamese ports can be shut down for nearly a month; no shipments are accepted during this time. We’re already looking ahead to the post Chinese New Year shipping push to meet tight deadlines for our customers.

Export sales continue to climb for the month of December; 2016 has proven to be favorable, and because of this, we’re forecasting even more growth for 2017.
